Reset Methods
USB Recovery Mode - Bypasses Admin Password
This method works even when you don't have admin credentials or when the phone is provider-locked. It requires specific hardware and firmware files but is the most reliable way to reset a locked phone.
1. USB Recovery Mode
For phones with unknown admin passwords or stuck in boot loops:
Prerequisites:
- USB flash drive formatted to FAT32 (must be formatted on Windows)
- Three required files from Yealink Support:
- ROM file (firmware)
- BIN file
- RFS file
- AC power adapter (preferred over PoE)
Steps:
- Download required files:
- Visit Yealink Support website
- Download the ROM file under the Firmware tab
- Find the BIN and RFS files in the FAQ section under SIP Phone → Upgrade
- Choose firmware version newer than but closest to current version
- Prepare USB files:
- Format USB drive to FAT32 on Windows
- Rename files according to your model (e.g., for T42S):
- T42S.rom (firmware file)
- T42S.bin
- T42S.rfs
- Enter Recovery Mode:
- Insert USB drive into phone
- Hold down the Speaker button while the phone is powered off
- While holding the Speaker button, connect power (use AC adapter, not PoE)
- Keep holding until the recovery menu appears
- Select "USB" option (usually option 2)
Methods Requiring Admin Credentials
These methods only work if you have the default admin password or know the current admin credentials.
1. Standard Phone Interface Reset
Default credentials (if not changed by provider):
- Username: admin
- Password: admin
- Press and hold the OK button for 5-10 seconds
- When you see the confirmation message, press OK
- Enter the administrator credentials when prompted
- The phone will reset to factory settings
2. Newer Models Interface Reset
For T33G, T42S, T46S, T48S, T43U, T46U, T48U, T53, T53W, T54W, T40P, T58W, VP59:
- Long-press the OK button for 5 seconds
- Enter administrator credentials when prompted
- Press the Yes softkey to confirm factory reset
Note: For T57W models only - Long-press the Redial button for 5 seconds instead of OK
3. Local Configuration File Method
This method requires admin access to the phone:
- Create a configuration file (e.g.,
reset.cfg
) containing:
orstatic.security.user_password = admin:admin
static.security.user_password = user:user
- Host this file on a local web server
- On the phone:
- Long press a Line Key
- Choose Type as "Key Event"
- Set Key Type as "Zero Touch"
- Set Label as "password"
- Press the configured line key
- Navigate through Network Auto Provision
- Enter the URL to your configuration file
- Go to Menu → Basic → Update Configuration
Important Notes
Provider Lock Warning
Many VoIP providers lock their phones with custom passwords and may register the MAC address with Yealink's RPS (Remote Provisioning Service). In these cases:
- Factory reset attempts may fail due to admin password restrictions
- Phone may automatically re-provision to provider settings
- Provider is unlikely to share unlock credentials
- This is often used to prevent device theft/resale
- The device may need to be removed from Yealink's RPS database (requires contacting Yealink support)
Best Practices
- Document current settings before reset if possible
- Keep network details handy for recovery procedures
- Purchase phones from authorized dealers to avoid locked devices
- Check if phone is provider-locked before attempting reset
