1. Set Manual IP Address on Computer
Configure a static IP on your computer's Ethernet adapter: IP like 192.168.1.100 (last octet between 2 to 254), subnet mask 255.255.255.0, and gateway 192.168.1.1.
2. Connect to the EdgeRouter X
Connect to the EdgeRouter's eth0 port. Open a web browser and navigate to 192.168.1.1. Bypass the security warning and log in with default credentials (username: ubnt, password: ubnt). Accept the legal agreement.
3. Start Load Balancing Setup Wizard
In the EdgeRouter's interface, start the Load Balancing Setup Wizard, found in the top left corner.
4. Configure First Internet Port (eth0)
- Choose your internet connection type for eth0.
- Enable the firewall for this interface.
- Set the MTU to 1492 or as your ISP requires.
5. Configure Second Internet Port (eth1)
- Select your internet connection type for eth1.
- Enable the firewall for this interface.
- Set the MTU to 1492 or as your backup ISP requires.
6. Failover Settings
Check the 'Failover Only' option.
7. LAN Configuration (eth2, eth3, eth4)
Note: customize this step your liking
Set your router gateway IP to 192.168.10.1 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. Enable DHCP for the 192.168.10.0/24 subnet.
8. User Setup
Update password or create a new admin user and store the credentials in 1Password.
9. LAN-to-LAN Exclusion
Ensure LAN-to-LAN exclusion is enabled (usually no change is required).
10. Apply Changes and Test
Save and apply the changes. Test the configuration to ensure everything is working as expected.
