Annoying messages and ads. These are two major annoyances that people experience browsing the web.
In Feb 2018, Google started blocking intrusive ads on Computer and Android, unfortunately not yet on iOS. This article focuses on solutions for blocking ads on Chrome iOS (iPhone, iPad and iPod).
Block ads on Chrome iOS
Option 1: Setup AdGuard DNS (beta)
- From the home screen, tap ’Settings’
- Choose ’Wi-Fi’ in the left menu (it is impossible to configure DNS for mobile networks)
- Tap on the name of the currently active network
- In the ’DNS’ field enter our DNS addresses:
176.103.130.130
176.103.130.131
You can use
2a00:5a60::ad1:0ff
2a00:5a60::ad2:0ff
addresses for Internet Protocol Version 6
instead.
Option 2: Switch to Safari and install a content blocker
Personally, I use Safari with Adblock for Mobile by BETAFISH INC (Free) and Purify by Chris Aljoudi ($2.99AUD). This gives me a clean web experience.
Stop annoying alert messages in Chrome iOS
Suppress Dialogue once
This will only stop messages for your current visit of a site. If you don't see the option "Suppress Dialogues" in step 2, go to iOS Settings > iTunes & App Stores, check Automatic Downloads of Apps and Updates is enabled.
- Tap OK on the first annoying message
- On the message tap Suppress Dialogues and confirm you want to prevent this page from creating additional dialogues.
Turn pop-ups off
By default, Google Chrome blocks pop-ups from automatically showing up on your screen. When a pop-up is blocked, the address bar will be marked Pop-up blocked . You can also decide to allow pop-ups.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Chrome app
.
- Tap More
Settings.
- Tap Content Settings
Block Pop-ups.
- Turn Block pop-ups off.
