How to Change Windows 11 System Tray Date Format (2024 Update)

With the Windows 11 November 2024 update (KB5046732), Microsoft introduced a new streamlined system tray date and time display. Here's how to customize it to your preference.

How to Change the Date Format

1. Right-click the date and time in your system tray
2. Click "Adjust date and time"
   
3. Under "Show time and date in the System tray" section, you'll see these options:
   • "Show time and date in the System tray" toggle - Controls whether date/time appears at all
   • "Show abbreviated time and date" checkbox - Controls whether to use the new shorter format
     

Available Format Options

• Abbreviated format (new): 2:08 25/11
• Full format (classic): 2:08 25/11/2024

You can also optionally enable "Show seconds in system tray clock" for more precise time display, though this uses more power.
