With the Windows 11 November 2024 update (KB5046732), Microsoft introduced a new streamlined system tray date and time display. Here's how to customize it to your preference.
How to Change the Date Format
- Right-click the date and time in your system tray
- Click "Adjust date and time"
- Under "Show time and date in the System tray" section, you'll see these options:
- "Show time and date in the System tray" toggle - Controls whether date/time appears at all
- "Show abbreviated time and date" checkbox - Controls whether to use the new shorter format
Available Format Options
- Abbreviated format (new): 2:08 25/11
- Full format (classic): 2:08 25/11/2024
You can also optionally enable "Show seconds in system tray clock" for more precise time display, though this uses more power.
