How to Install and Configure uBlock Origin for Enhanced Browsing Security

uBlock Origin is a powerful browser extension that blocks ads, pop-ups, and malicious websites, enhancing your browsing experience and security. This guide will assist you in installing uBlock Origin on Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge and show you how to enable additional filter lists for advanced protection against phishing scams and annoying cookie notices.

Block Ads for Google Chrome:

  1. Open Chrome and visit uBlock Origin on the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Click "Add to Chrome".
  3. Once installed, click the Extensions icon (puzzle piece) in the upper right corner.
  4. Find uBlock Origin and click the pin icon to pin it to your taskbar.

Block Ads for Microsoft Edge:

  1. Open Edge and go to the uBlock Origin on the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Click “Get” to install the extension.
  3. After installation, click the Extensions icon (three horizontal dots) at the upper right.
  4. Find uBlock Origin and click the pin icon to pin it to your taskbar.

Enabling Additional Filter Lists to Block Phishing Scams and Cookie Notices

This process is the same for both Chrome and Edge. Enable more filters depending on your preferences.

  1. Click the uBlock Origin icon on your taskbar.
  2. Select the dashboard (settings) icon.
  3. Go to the “Filter lists” tab.
  4. Find "Phishing URL blocklist" and “EasyList/uBO – Cookie Notices”.
  5. Check their boxes and click "Apply changes".

Activating these filter lists enhances your browsing protection from phishing scams and reduces cookie notice interruptions.
